The Farmstead
Mellowspring Family Farms is a small homestead with a focus on heritage breeds & raising and growing foods for self-sustainability. Heritage breed animals are included on the Livestock Conservation list and include many hardy primitive breeds. We raise ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, sheep, and hogs with rotation. Animals are intentionally raised for conservation breeding, fiber, hides, breeding, & food.
In 2020 we were able to add established honey bee hives to our farm with great success! We had a rich honey flow immediately! (Check our shoppe page!) Bringing bees in helped us bring another goal into fruition as well - lavender! In love with this new addition!
The property includes 20acres running along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We are blessed to have several active springs on the property, a trickling brook, & a lovely pond for reflection. We are the headwaters of Dodd Creek & aim to treat those downstream with respect by being mindful of how we use our waterways.
Bring the family! One of our goals is to see more children experiencing nature!
Sorry - we cannot allow pets. Although we have a beautiful, natural setting, we are a working farm which is not conducive to animal visitors.

Biosecurity
At Mellowspring Family Farms the health and happiness of our animals is important to us. For this reason, we practice several biosecurity measures to avoid any disease transmission to our animals.
You will be asked to clean & spray your boots/shoes and any unclean clothing before entering any animal areas.
Biosecurity is the protection of agricultural animals from any type of infectious agent -- viral, bacterial, fungal, or parasitic. People can spread diseases as they move within a facility and from one facility to another. Animals or equipment introduced into a facility can bring pathogens with them. Among the many biosecurity procedures that can prevent these types of disease transmission are such measures as use of protective clothing, waiting periods for new animals and visitors, and cleaning.
